Each Knight and Lady of the Order receives a document signed by the Cardinal Grand Master and witnessed by an ecclesiastical dignity of the Chancery for the Apostolic Briefs of the Holy See at the Vatican City State. These scrolls, when translated into English, read as follows:

[Name of Cardinal], Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church, Titular deacon of the Church of the Sacred Heart of Christ the King, Grand Master of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

The Roman Pontiffs have always manifested profound benevolence toward the most noble Equestrian Order which in ancient times was founded to protect and to honor the Sepulchre of Our Lord Jesus Christ at Jerusalem, and have given frequent testimony of this fact. Moreover, Pope Pius IX, and the Pontiffs succeeding him have endeavored to accommodate the Order to the needs of the times decreeing that into this Order there be received those Christian faithful who have contributed to the preservation of the faith in Palestine and to the growth of the Patriarchal missions, or have been conspicuous for religious piety and nobility of Christian life, or who by their largess and contributions have in any way provided for Holy Church and the Apostolic See. Having these facts before our eyes, by virtue of the faculty granted to us, as Grand Master, by Pope Benedict XVI, namely of conferring parchments on men and women who are to be inducted into the ranks of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, we do hereby, choose, name, create, and designate you

and at the same time confer on you the authority to wear the distinctive insignia of the aforementioned Order according to the rank conferred on you, together with all the privileges, favor, and prerogatives which Knights and Ladies of the Order enjoy or will enjoy. In testimony of which we have directed that this certificate be prepared bearing our signature and seal.
